Chapter 2! (enjoy)

I walk out of the infirmary doors into nice cool air of Unicorn Way. I walk along the sidewalks of the yellow and green arrow-patterned road that end at Unicorn Park.  I walk across the bridge over a small brook to a circular park area with a huge unicorn statue in the center on its hind legs standing on a pedestal. I look around at all the children playing around with each other and adults sitting around talking and all of a sudden a shadow casted over Unicorn Park.  I look around in panic, and everyone else just goes on with what they were doing as if nothing was wrong. Do they realize they could be in danger? I start to run across the bright green grass of the park. I can hear it crush beneath my feet as I run. Just as I am about to run past the unicorn statue a purple raven with red patches swoops down and picks me up by my arms. I try to scream but no sound will come out. I look above to find a masked driver. Through the mask all you can see is his mysterious brown and gold eyes. I tried to scream again and began to squirm as we headed towards the arena. Finally the driver pulls off his mask to reveal his huge smile and tan skin. It was Austin Swifthorn.
“Oh, Nikki calm down. It was only a joke.” He said choking back a laugh.

“AUSTIN! Why did you do this? I need to go to the headmaster because I need to discuss to him about getting a dorm.”
Concerned filled Austin’s eyes. “Why do you need a dorm? Don’t you live with your parents?” he asked.
I looked at him as tears filled my eyes, “My parents died. Only Kaitlyn and I survived the fire in our house. We have no home anymore.”
Austin looked ahead ashamed before replying, “Oh, sorry to hear that. I-I didn’t know. I’ll take you to the headmaster’s house. You’ll get there a lot faster riding my raven.”
“Thanks Austin. “ I said trying to smile.

The rest of the ride was silent. We glided over the huge wall that separates Unicorn way from The Commons area. We glided across houses and the pond in the middle of The Commons and landed in the headmaster’s front yard. Austin slid off his Raven and said, “Here we are the headmaster’s house.”
Thank you so much Austin,” I said walking over to him and giving him a huge hug. We stopped hugging and Austin Jumped back onto his raven and flew away. I turned towards the front of the house and walked to the front door. The house was like a castle with banners of every school along the top. It was made of grey bricks. I knocked on the door and heard someone yell. “Come on in!”
I reluctantly reached my petit hand to the doorknob on a brown door with a circular stained glass window that had a spiral pattern on it. I turned the handle and pushed the door open to find a room filled with wizards who were starting school and were turning in quests. The headmaster was standing next to his desk that was piled high with papers and trinkets of all sorts. Behind his desk were more stacks of paper.
“What do you need young lady?” The headmaster said making his way over to me.
“Well..um..I need a dorm for me and my little sister.” I said quietly. The headmaster ran over to his desk and went through a few papers before coming back over to me.
“Here take a seat.” He said pointing to a couch made of wood with red cushions on it. I walked slowly over and he added, “Nicole, did you ever meet your grandparents?”
I shook my head no and answered,” No, they died a month before I was born.”

He shook his head before saying, “well they left you their estate for when you needed it. Would you like to live there instead of a dorm?”
I looked up at him in astonishment. I shook my head yes. He got up and walked over to his brown desk and went into the top right draw and pulled out a key that was purple with yellow lightning bolts on it. He walked back over and said, “Here is the key to you estate. It’s on an island off the side of old town. They also left you a purple raven to ride. It should bring you to the island. He is back around in the stables here let me take you to him. His name is Hubert. After he meets you, all you have to do is call his name and he will come pick you up.”
A grin grew across my face as I said, “Thank you! So much!” He shook his head and then motioned for me to follow. We headed out a back door to a stable filled with all kinds of trained animals. There were ostriches, hippogriffs, tigers, lions, panthers, fairy wings, you name it, it was probably there. Out of all of them on really stood out to me. It was a raven that was purple and on its wings were dark blue stripes. Before I knew it the Headmaster called it over.
“This is your Raven.” He said not really caring.

Amazement was in my eyes. It was the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. It had mesmerizing dark blue eyes that seemed inviting but also cold.
“Thanks so much Ambrose.” I said. He nodded and walked back to his castle. I walked over to the raven and petted its head. It acted like it has known me forever. I reluctantly walked over to its side and jumped up on top of him. He immediately flew up into the blue sky and over the wall to the Shopping District. I saw people below look up in amazement. We flew over another wall too Olde Town. I have never felt so alive. I felt adrenaline pulsing through my veins. It was amazing, and thrilling being so high above the ground. I felt like I could do anything, be anything.
All of a sudden Hubert started flying slower. A small island started to come into view. Upon it was a huge castle. Bigger then the headmasters. It had a huge area of grass surrounding the entire castle. Then there was a moat. There was a drawbridge leading to an arena on the right and on the left a series of ramps leading to random doors into the castle. I can’t believe I went from nothing to this. Kaitlyn is going to be so surprised!

Chapter 1 :)

The nurses said I was ready to walk again. Two of the nurses, Abigail and Brooke, helped me out of bed. This is the first time I have been in a good mood in awhile. Ever since I found out my parents died and my sister, Kaitlyn, was still trying to be revived. The fire happened about a week ago. I finally got enough strength to walk. Brooke helped me up then left me with Abigail to go tend to some other patients. Abigail walked me around the infirmary. We passed my sisters bed. There were 5 or 6 life wizards gathered around tirelessly sending dryads and satyrs to try and revive her. It hurt too much to watch so I looked away and continued walking forward. A tear rolled down my cheek. Thinking about how my sister was all I had left, and she may not even survive. I would be alone.  Thinking about how all too true my thoughts were made me forget what I was doing.
“Nicole. Nicole?” Abigail was saying. We were standing in the middle of the hall.

“S-sorry, I have a lot on my mind lately.” I replied while continuing forward. Abigail’s deep green, understanding eyes sparkled.

she said quietly, “Anyone in your place would.”

“I think that’s enough walking for today.” Abigail said with a huge smile.

I nodded in agreement and we turned around and headed slowly back to my room. A few life wizards had sat down and a few more filled their place at Kaitlyn’s bedside.  I walked by pretending not to notice what we were passing. I did a silent prayer that she would survive. She was all I had left. I couldn’t lose her. We finally arrived at my bed and I was about to sit down when I noticed an opened book on my bed.
“Thanks Abigail I got it from here.” I said waving Abigail away.  She nodded understanding and walked out. I sat down on the edge of my bed and noticed a not on top of the book. I picked it up carefully to find writing on it. No handwriting I know. I read it and it said, “Read this page. I am hoping once you do you will understand why you need to.” It was signed love anonymous. Great. Just what I need. To take advice from a note from someone I don’t know. I reluctantly picked the book up, and held the page with my finger, and flipped to the front cover.
It was an old withered dark blue with brown swirl designs on it. Maroon lettering formed the words, “Prophecies of the Spiral.” Confused I flipped back to the page I was holding and it was entitled, “The Prophecy of Times.” I decided to read it.  It says, “The sky will fall, The ground will quake. A ratio of righteous and wicked will break. The land that separates, Will be what binds. To bring us, to our own demise.” I wonder what the prophecy means, and how I play a role in it. All if a sudden a doctor came running over to my bedside.
“Hello ma’am. Are you Nicole DaisySInger?” The doctor said.

He had tan skin and mesmerizing chocolate brown eyes. He would have been attractive if he was a little younger.
“Y-yes that’s me.” I managed to mumble.

“Come with my right away. Its about your sister Kaitlyn.” He said with complete seriousness. My eyes grew wide I placed the book back on my bed upside down on the page and got up.
“Wait, I just started walking again today.” I said realizing the problem.

The doctor snapped his finger and I suddenly felt like I could run a marathon without breaking a sweat. He hurried out of the room and I followed close behind.
“How did you do that?” I asked in complete amazement.

He ignored my question and led me to Kaitlyn’s bed. Life wizards anymore it was just a nurse cleaning up the table and Kaitlyn lying in her bed didn’t surround it. I almost burst out in tears. I thought she was dead but then I saw it. Her chest moved up and down. She’s breathing!
I tried to contain my excitement and the doctor shot me a smile before saying, “It took awhile but she’s almost fully healed. She can go home in 3 days. Speaking of which you can get released now. You can walk and your wounds are either sewed up or almost completely healed.”
I looked up at him with hope. I mouthed the words thank you and walked over to my sister and sat by her side. I reached for her hand and as I touched the back her eyes fluttered open to reveal her stunning grass colored eyes, just like mine.
“N-Nicole?” she said barely audible.

“Yea it’s me. How are you feeling?” I replied.

“ Okay I guess. Really weak. It hurts to breathe.” She said trying to smile.

“Here let me go get a doctor and see if they can help with the hurt to breathe thing.” I said with a smile as I slowly got up and walked up to the same doctor who showed me my sister. “Excuse me, my sister woke up and she is saying it hurts her to breathe. Is there anything you can do to help her?” I asked with concern.
“Here let me go see.” He said walking over to her bed. I followed close behind feeling guilty for leaving her alone.  “Well hello there Kaitlyn. Nice to see you awake finally.” He said with a huge smile.
“Hi.” She said with a smile. I tried not to giggle.

“What’s wrong, your sister said it hurts to breathe?” He said that like he was talking to a baby even though Kaitlyn was 9.
She shook her head yes and then asked, “Excuse me, but how long have I been out?” He snapped his fingers and her face looked relieved.
He then answered, “About a week now. Why?”

“Just wondering. Thanks, it’s a lot easier to breathe now.”

“Anytime.” He said flashing her another smile and leaving the room.

“Nicole?” she said.

 “Yes Kaitlyn?” I answered.

“Where’s mom and dad?” She asked.

Oh, no. The question I have been dreading, and hoping she wouldn’t ask.

“Um, about that,” I said while sitting down and grabbing her hand, “Well during all the chaos, our house kind of collapsed and they were caught in the rubble. They didn’t survive.”

Tears erupted out of her eye,“T-th-they d-di-didn’t m-ma-make i-it?”

I shook my head no. I out stretched my arms and sat on the edge of the bed. She leaned over to me and cried into my shoulder. We are all we have. I’m only 15 and now I need to care for Kaitlyn. After a few minutes I let go and she laid back.
“You should get some sleep. I am gonna go head to the headmaster’s house and see if I can get us a dorm to live in.” I said.
She shook her head yes and I waited till she closed her eyes and drifted off before leaving and heading to the front desk.
I walked up to the Secretary, “Hi, I’m Nicole DaisySinger, the doctor said I could get released.” The secretary looked through some books before replying, “It seems like you can. Have a nice day Ms. DaisySinger.”
“Thanks!” I said then swiftly turned around and walked out the infirmary doors. Now to the headmasters office.

Prologue! (Hope you like it!)

The smoke and ash were overwhelming. As I choked and coughed, gasping for every breathe to stay awake. A mixture or dark oranges and reds before everything turned black. That’s the last thing I can remember. After a seemingly endless darkness I wake up in a room with tan walls and a white ceiling. I lay in what used to be a white bed but you couldn’t tell now, for it is stained with black and red. Coming back to full consciousness about a dozen people run over to my bed. I must be in the infirmary. These are my nurses. At least ten nurses filed out and I was left with one fluffing pillow I managed to speak.
          “W-what happened?” I said confused.

“You don’t remember?” she said sounding over tired and a little annoyed.

I shook my head no. She rolled her eyes and sat in a chair next to the bed.

“A huge fire. It broke out in Fire Cat ally. It burned down most of the houses. No one knows what started it but it was huge. Your one of the few survivors. Your lucky your lungs were filled with soot.”
I sighed with relief then realized. What about my family.

I spoke loudly trying not to scream, “Who else survived? Did my family? My mom? Sister? Dad?” She put a finger to her mouth to signal to be quiet.
“I don’t know yet. They are still recovering survivors. Go to sleep you need your rest.” I nodded and she walked out.
What happened last night? Why can’t I remember? I searing pain rushed to my head. I lifted my hand to my head and it touched a gash. It ran from about my hairline to my eyebrow.  I decided the nurse was right I should probably get some sleep. I lay down and slowly drifted off. A fire. I stood there not being able to move as Fire Cat ally burned down in flames. All you can hear is the screams of people trying to leave. I try to run but I cant. Houses collapsed. People were crushed. I saw a few people running around on fire. I close my eyes just as a tear runs down my face. This was no ordinary fire. This was the work of way more then one Pyromancer. You can tell. I opened my eyes again and the scene was even more horrid. Undead starting filling the streets from the dark cave that connected Fire Cat ally to Cyclops Lane. Why is this happening?
I saw something black in the sky. It flew high above the clouds before disappearing. Looking around the undead were starting to kill civilians.  Pale ghosts, skeletons with armor. I reach for my wand to try to help but it is missing. Before I know it seven or 8 of the undead were attacking me. I tried to scream but the words wouldn’t escape my mouth. My eyes grew wider before I fell to the ground. I awoke with the start. I looked around and I was back in the Infirmary.  I lay against the bed trying to catch my breath. I have never seen so many people in the infirmary at once. Something bad must have happened. I hope my family is ok. I looked around to see dozens of nurses and doctors caring for patients. Some people looked like they were beyond fixing. Missing legs here, missing arms there. One in particular stood out to me. My neighbor, Mr. Swifthorn. He is one of my best friends dads but he lived in Triton Avenue. What is he doing here? I took a closer look and it looks like half his face was burned off.
Several nurses were cleaning off his wound. It was disgusting yet interesting at the same time. I wanted to get up to see if he was ok, and also to get a closer look. But my legs wouldn’t let me. It felt like my nightmare but this time I wasn’t getting attacked by undead, or watching people die right in front of me. All I could do was hope that horrific scene wasn’t true. If it was, I feel like WizardCity isn’t going to be safe for much longer. The things that created that fire will be back. And if we aren’t ready, we will all die. We cannot let that happen. We just can’t.
